School of Mass Communication hosts Press Club networking night

April 24, 2009

Communication students from New Orleans colleges and universities mingled with media professionals at the School of Mass Communication’s first networking night on Tuesday, April 14.

About 50 students from Loyola, Tulane, Xavier, Dillard, UNO and SUNO attended the event, which was co-sponsored by the Press Club of New Orleans. The festive crowd nibbled on appetizers and chatted in the school’s Studio A, and media professionals from Deveney Communication, The Times-Picayune, WDSU-TV and about 15 other organizations met with students to discuss networking and internships.

“I feel like I met and talked with a lot of people who had good advice for my career,” said Loyola senior Katie Anderson. “It was such a great opportunity to meet professionals and make connections and have a good time.”

“It was just so great to walk in and see people lined up to sign in,” said public relations professor Cathy Rogers, Ph.D. “There was a lot of energy in the room. It was nice to see such a diverse gathering. There were top people and new employees.”
