March 27, 2009
McCabe, from Mount Pleasant, Iowa, averaged nine minutes played in 21 games for the Wolfpack this season. Although used primarily for his defense, he also contributed 32 points for the year.
Tuszynski started all 30 games this season for Loyola. He was fourth in scoring for the Wolfpack with 8.4 points per game. Tuszynski, a native of Dallas, Texas, led the team with 6.6 rebounds per game this year. Along with being the top rebounder, he also shot a team best 59 percent from the field.
Both players helped Loyola to a 19-11 overall record this season, best since the 1947-48 team. The Wolfpack also recorded a program best 12 wins in the GCAC since joining the conference in 1995.
In order to be named to the Scholar-Athletes list, a player must be at least a junior in academic standing and maintain a 3.5 grade point average.
Comments from athletic director and men’s basketball head coach Dr. Michael Giorlando: “Nick and Matt are two outstanding Loyola student athletes who are to be commended for their pursuit of excellence on and off the court. We are extremely proud that both were awarded to the 2008-09 NAIA Men’s Basketball Daktronics Scholar-Athletes list; I know their families are very happy for their success as well.”
