March 6, 2009
The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference announced today that Loyola’s Ryan Brock and Sean Bennett have been named All-GCAC for men’s basketball. Brock, who transferred from the University of New Orleans, was also awarded with Newcomer of the Year.
Brock and Bennett both had outstanding seasons, leading Loyola to their best conference record since joining the GCAC. Brock, a sophomore forward from New Orleans, led the GCAC in scoring with 19.71 points per game. For the season, Brock scored double digits in all but two games and scored more than 30 points twice. Brock, a four-time recipient of GCAC Player of the Week, is currently fifth on Loyola’s single season scoring list with 552 points.
Bennett, a junior guard from Mandeville, La., averaged 14.31 points per contest which was 12th in the GCAC. Bennett did most of his damage from behind the arc, hitting at least four three-pointers seven times in conference play, including a career-best seven at LSUS. He also led the GCAC in free-throw percentage at 86 percent, which ranked sixth in the NAIA. Bennett has scored 880 points for his career and is 23rd on Loyola’s career scoring list.
