Loyola signs first baseball recruit of 2010 class
February 6, 2009
Loyola head baseball coach Gerald Cassard has announced the signing of Joey Pajares from Mandeville High, the first signing of the 2010 recruiting class.
Pajares, a native of Madisonville, La., pitches and plays both the outfield and infield for the Skippers. Last season, the 6-0 right-hander had four wins and one loss, with a 3.30 ERA. As a junior, he hit .327 with 18 RBIs.
Pajares led his team to the final eight in the state playoffs last season, upsetting No. 1 ranked West Monroe 7-6. In that game, Pajares was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored twice.
At Loyola, Pajares intends to major in business/law.
Comments from head coach Gerald Cassard: “We are very excited to have Joey on our team next season. Being as versatile as he is, we believe he will be able to contribute right away. Joey is not only a great baseball player, but he is an excellent student which is extremely important here at Loyola.”
