McChesney leads Loyola in sweep of Tougaloo

David McChesney hit three home runs on the afternoon as Loyola completed a GCAC sweep of Tougaloo last Saturday at Segnette Field.
In the first game, McChesney went 4 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBI as Loyola defeated the Bulldogs 12-2 in six innings.
Mike Kelly (1-0) recorded the victory going three innings and striking out seven. He surrendered two runs on three hits and walked two. Taylor Domengeaux added two hits and two RBI for the Wolfpack.
For Tougaloo, Brett Stegall (0-1) was tagged with the loss. He went three innings and gave up seven runs, three earned on six hits and struck out two. Lanford Porter and Bennett Womble each had two hits for the Bulldogs.
In the second game, McChesney added his third home run of the day as Loyola completed the sweep with an 11-6 victory.
Freshman George Smith (1-0) got the victory in his debut. The lefthander threw three innings of perfect relief and struck out five. Eric Walsh closed out the last two frames retiring all six batters that he faced. He struck out three Bulldog hitters in his appearance.
Loyola scored 11 runs on nine hits with Matt Wendt and Kelly leading the way with two each.
For Tougaloo (0-3, 0-3 GCAC), Vernon Sims took the loss. He went three innings and gave up seven runs, four earned on six hits and walked three. Derrick Singleton and Lanford Porter each had two hits.
The Wolfpack (3-0, 3-0 GCAC) returns to action at Segnette Field in a three game GCAC series with Belhaven slated to begin at 6 p.m. tonight. A 1 p.m. double header will follow on Saturday, Jan. 31.
