Loyola at a Glance
LUCAP on MTV
January 16, 2009
On Tuesday, Jan. 20, from 9 to 10:30 p.m., MTV will feature students from the Loyola University Community Action Program participating in “Rebuilding the Dream 24-Hour Build” for the St. Bernard Project, a not-for-profit group that works to rebuild homes in St. Bernard Parish.
The feature coincides with MTV’s “Be the Change” inauguration coverage being broadcast worldwide.
“Change continues to be the battle cry of President-elect Obama and in the campaign for service, this is what we need. However, if we look at the city around us, change is many times sparse and slow-coming,” says Kathleen Warner, chairperson of LUCAP.
“Thousands of residents still have not been able to come back home and poverty is more prevalent than ever. Therefore it is imperative that everyone come together to help those around us in any way we can.”
LUCAP initially began working with the St. Bernard Project in Oct. 2006 and is part of a standing LUCAP Project, Shrockin’ (a combination of ‘sheet’ and ‘rock’).
