Loyola men defeat Dillard in GCAC opener

Loyola had five players in double figures as the Wolfpack opened GCAC play with a 81-74 victory over Dillard Thursday night at Dent Hall.
With 5:45 remaining in the contest, Loyola’s Ryan Brock broke a 63-63 tie that prompted a 15-4 run that put the Wolfpack in control of the game. Brock had five of his 25 points during the Loyola spurt.
Brock led the Wolfpack attack with 25 points on 7 of 14 shooting from the field. He converted 11 of 15 from the free throw line and grabbed six rebounds. Torry Beaulieu, Cameron Cates and Nick Tuszynski each had 11 points. Sean Bennett rounded out the leading scorers with 10 points, and Robert Manson grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Loyola improved to 8-4, 1-0 GCAC.
For Dillard (3-8, 0-1 GCAC), David Manning led with 25 points on 8 of 16 shooting from the field. Michael Bridges had 16 points and a game high 11 rebounds. Autrail Manning finished with 12.
GCAC play continues with Loyola traveling to Hattiesburg on Saturday evening with tip off at William Carey slated for 7 p.m.
Comments from Loyola head coach Dr. Michael Giorlando: “Tonight was a hard fought game. I thought the key tonight was our shot selection and poise against an aggressive, trapping defense. Our guards played well against their pressure and got the ball to the open man in the second half.”
