Trenell Smith named GCAC player of the week

The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference named Loyola University New Orleans junior forward Trenell Smith Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 3.
Smith led the Wolfpack to a victory over the University of Texas-Tyler last Tuesday, scoring 23 points in the game. She had a hot hand converting 8 of 15 from the field, and was 3 for 6 from behind the arc. Smith also contributed on the defensive end with seven rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot.
Smith’s average of 18.86 ppg is second best in conference and ranks 12th in the NAIA.
Loyola returns to action on Thursday when they open up conference play across town at Dillard. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m., and will be followed by the men’s game.
