Loyola trio named to All-GCAC volleyball team
November 21, 2008
The Wolfpack volleyball’s team season may have ended this past weekend, but the awards continue to roll in. Mary Seals, Sarah Howard and Gina Gill were all named to the GCAC All-Conference Team.
Mary Seals has been named to the all-conference team each of her four years at Loyola, including winning Freshman of the Year in 2004. Seals had a great senior season, finishing second only to teammate Gina Gill for the conference lead in kills (3.7 kpg), winning conference Hitter of the Week eight times and was awarded Player of the Week for the fourth time in her career. She finishes her career at Loyola with the single season records in kills (695) and attacks (2175) in 2007; she also leaves Loyola as the career leader in those respective categories.
Not to be outdone, fellow senior Sarah Howard was named to the team for the fourth time in her career and was named the GCAC Setter of the Year. Howard led the conference in assists (830), and won Setter of the Week six times this season, bringing her career total to eleven. She set all-time season highs in assists in 2004 (1427) and 2007 (1528) and finishes her career as the Loyola’s all-time leader.
Gina Gill, from Baton Rouge, La., was named All-Conference and GCAC Freshman of the Year in her first season at Loyola. Gill led the conference in kills (3.8 kpg).
The Wolfpack finished their season with a 17-9 record, co-regular season champs, and took second place in the GCAC Conference Tournament.
