Loyola sings in the season with Christmas celebration

November 21, 2008

Loyola University New Orleans will celebrate the holiday season with the annual Christmas at Loyola musical celebration on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m., at Holy Name of Jesus Church, located at 6367 St. Charles Ave. Admission is free and open to the public.

Christmas at Loyola will showcase several of the College of Music and Fine Arts’ ensembles including the Loyola Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Jean Montès, the University Chorus and the Loyola Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Meg Hulley-Frazier, and the Loyola Brass Ensemble, under the direction of Nick Voltz.

This year, Christmas at Loyola features a mixture of classical Christmas choral and orchestral music including the first and second movements of Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante, K. 364, with faculty soloists Amy Thiaville on violin and Bruce Owen on viola.

Featured choral selections include “O Magnum Mysterium” by Tomás Luis de Victoria, “A Spotless Rose” by Herbert Howells and “Ave Maria” by Franz Biebl.

There will also be an audience sing-along featuring traditional Christmas carols.

Christmas at Loyola has been an annual tradition of Loyola and its community for 16 years and continues to be one of most popular community events of the season.

Free parking is available in Loyola’s West Road Garage.
