Wolfpack volleyball sweeps Blue Devils 3-0

The Loyola volleyball team secured at least the two-seed in the GCAC Tournament as the Wolfpack beat Dillard 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-16) Wednesday night at The Den.

Mary Seals led the Wolfpack on the offensive end with 13 kills. She is now four kills shy of breaking Maggie Schaefer’s career kills mark of 1,936. Seals also contributed two blocks in the Wolfpack win.

Sarah Howard, Loyola’s career assists record holder, added 31 helpers to her total.

Howard, Lindsay Mullinix, Gina Gill and Megan Mathews each had a pair of aces in the match. Mullinix also led the team with three blocks.

Defensively, Keelyn Henderson dug out 10 Blue Devil attacks to lead the Wolfpack.

Loyola advanced to 13-8 on the season and 6-1 in conference play, a half-game behind Mobile for top spot in the GCAC standings. The Wolfpack and Rams (29-2, 6-0 GCAC) will meet in The Den with at least a share of the regular season title on the line.

Keisha Smoke led Dillard (5-14, 1-6 GCAC) offensively with seven kills in the match.

Danta Cobb picked up the Blue Devils lone served ace. Tawonna Cage knocked back six Wolfpack attacks for Blue Devil points.

Loyola will hit the court next on Saturday afternoon when the Wolfpack host Mississippi Valley State University. Match time between the Wolfpack and Delta Devilettes is set for 1 p.m. as part of a volleyball/basketball doubleheader.
