Team Loyola races for the cure in force
October 24, 2008
Loyola University New Orleans Women’s Resource Center, Department of Athletics and Wellness and Residential Life joined forces to field a team for the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, which took place Sunday, Oct. 19, at City Park.
More than 40 people registered for Team Loyola and participated in the race, raising over $800 for breast cancer research.
Women’s Resource Center Director Karen Reichard said the race was important in its focus on women’s issues as well as on overall health and wellness.
“Being at the race, I felt humbled in the presence of so many women and their families whose lives have been directly affected by breast cancer,” Reichard said. “I also feel privileged to be a part of this community at Loyola that truly embraces the call to human solidarity and responsibility for others.”
On the heels of this success, Loyola will continue to mix philanthropy and wellness by participating in the Corporate Cup to benefit the YMCA. Kristi Salvaggio, associate director for wellness, is heading up that effort.
