September 26, 2008
Loyola’s volleyball team won its fifth consecutive match to start the season with an 18-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-20 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Thursday night .
Senior outside hitter Mary Seals led the Wolfpack (5-0) with 17 kills in the match. Freshman outside hitter Gina Gill added 16 kills. Seals and Gill both have tallied double digit kills in each of the five matches the Wolfpack has played this season.
Senior setter Sarah Howard added 42 assists, three blocks and two aces for Loyola.
The fifth win to start the season extended a program record for victories in the beginning of the year. The previous mark was three matches in 1999 and 2005.
Tonight’s win also gave Coach Tommy Harold the 99th win of his career. Harold is second in career victories for a volleyball head coach. He trails Greg Castillo who won 148 matches in his seven year career for the maroon and gold. Harold is in his sixth season with the Wolfpack, including the 2005 campaign that was shortened due to Hurricane Katrina.
