Loyola volleyball opens GCAC play with win

Freshman Gina Gill led the Wolfpack with 20 kills as Loyola University New Orleans defeated Belhaven 25-18, 20-25, 25-9, 25-10 at Rugg Arena in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Senior Mary Seals added 14 kills and two blocks in the victory for the Wolfpack, who improved to 2-0 and 1-0 in GCAC play. Senior Sarah Howard had a match high 40 assists, six aces and two blocks. Gill contributed two blocks as well on the defensive side of the net.
“Our conference is a very competitive league and it is nice to start GCAC play with a win on the road. There are a couple areas that we need to improve, but for our first trip of the year, I was happy with the result,” said Loyola head coach Tommy Harold.
Loyola returns to action on Monday, September 22nd at Dillard. Start time at Dent Hall is slated for 7 p.m.
Belhaven falls to 3-5, 0-1 GCAC on the season.
