McGowan Scholarship awards first Loyola student
June 20, 2008
Loyola University New Orleans is proud to announce its first recipient of the McGowan Scholarship, which provides selected universities with scholarships to help students who wish to pursue a business education.
Jennifer Moreale, a junior economics major, was selected by a faculty committee to receive the scholarship, which will provide $18,000 toward her tuition for the upcoming school year.
Interim dean for the Joseph A. Butt, S.J., College of Business, Jerry Dauterive, who was part of the selection committee, says, “The committee considered scholarship ability, leadership potential and service contributions. Jennifer is one of our most outstanding undergraduates and she will be a wonderful representative of Loyola in the McGowan Scholars program. Her selection for this prestigious award is well-deserved.”
The McGowan Scholarship program was started by William G. McGowan, founder and chairman of MCI Communications, and is designed to encourage leadership ability, interpersonal skills and a significant involvement in academic, campus and community activities. It also recognizes excellence of character, a spirit of innovation and entrepreneurial potential.
