Loyola announces new vice president for enrollment

May 30, 2008

Salvadore A. Liberto has been selected as the new vice president for enrollment management and associate provost for Loyola University New Orleans effective July 1.

Liberto, a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Jesuit High School, is returning to the area from Brookline, Mass., where he is currently serving as the vice president for enrollment and dean of admission for Newbury College. Liberto is credited with having helped Newbury grow its full-time enrollment by more than 45 percent in the last five years.

While at Newbury, Liberto worked in admissions in several capacities, learning the industry from the ground up. He began as an admissions counselor in 1998, also working part-time as a play-by-play sports announcer for Media One cable. Liberto swiftly moved up the ranks in Newbury’s enrollment and admission department to become the dean of admission in 2005. In addition to his work in admissions, Liberto has also been an adjunct faculty member for Newbury since 1997 and continues to teach classes in public speaking and freshman orientation. He also served as an adjunct faculty member in 2003 for Boston’s Bay State College where he taught English classes.

Prior to working at Newbury College, Liberto was the director of the Sylvan Technology Center in New Orleans from 1994 to 1996. He also trained and mentored high school students to participate in regional and national debate competitions from 1990 to 1993 while he served as the assistant debate coach for Lexington High School in Lexington, Mass.

Liberto earned a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and communication, and later, a master of arts degree in higher education, both from Boston College.
