Loyola’s Trenese Smith Named Sugar Bowl Female Amateur Athlete of the Year
April 25, 2008
The honors just keep on coming for Trenese Smith as the Allstate Sugar Bowl Sports Selection Committee named the Loyola star the 2007 Outstanding Female Amateur Athlete in the Greater New Orleans area.
Smith, a second team NAIA All-American, led Loyola to its second straight GCAC regular season championship and the Wolfpack’s deepest trip in the NAIA National Championship Tournament, making it to the elite eight. At Dillard on January 17th, she hit ten three pointers, which tied a GCAC record, as she scored 39 points, both of which are Loyola single-game records. Her 690 points on 228 made baskets were both Wolfpack single-season records. She finished by averaging 19.7 points per game.
Along with the NAIA second team All-American and Sugar Bowl nods, Trenese was recognized as a WBCA-NAIA All-American honorable mention, along with her second straight All-GCAC and conference Player of the Year selections.
