Loyola faculty, staff and alumni make a big splash at the Big Easy Entertainment Awards
March 28, 2008
Several Loyola University New Orleans community members were recently recognized for their contributions in theatre at the Big Easy Entertainment Awards. The most prestigious award went to playwright John Biguenet, A'71, a professor at Loyola, who won the inaugural Theatre Person of the Year. Biguenet also won an award in another major category, Best Original Play of 2007, for Rising Water. Additionally, Loyola employee Angela Papale took home the Best Actress in a Comedy award for her role in Prelude to a Kiss. Two Loyola drama / communications alumni were also nominated for awards: Ryan Rilette, 1995 graduate, for Best Director of a Drama, and 1993 graduate, Benjamin Clement, as the director for the category, Best University Production.
The winners were recognized at an awards gala on Monday, March 24, at Harrah’s Casino. The event brought together the vibrant New Orleans theater community and was sponsored and hosted by Clancy (L' 93) and Margo Dubos of Gambit Weekly. This is the 20th anniversary of the Big Easy’s theater awards.
