Whose cuisine will reign supreme? Loyola hosts student Iron Chef Competition

Student teams from around the area will gather at Loyola University New Orleans to find out who can stand the heat in the kitchen during an annual student Iron Chef Competition.
John Besh, a recent competitor on the Food Network’s “The Next Iron Chef” and owner of Restaurant August in New Orleans, will be a special guest judge at the Loyola Asian Student Organization’s (LASO) annual Iron Chef Competition Thursday, March 27, at 7 p.m. in the St. Charles Room on Loyola’s main campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Teams from LASO, the Loyola Black Student Union, the Loyola Muslim Student Association and Asian organizations from UNO, Xavier and Tulane will be competing for the Iron Chef title and trophy in an event billed as, “Whose Cuisine Will Reign Supreme?!” Thuy Thi Le, president of LASO, said, “The Iron Chef competition is an event that brings a diverse group of students from the Loyola community and New Orleans together for an intense night of competition. The audience will get to see how well these teams work together under pressure for the coveted title of Iron Chef 2008.”
Besh will be joined by judges Vinny Bruno, Loyola University’s executive chef, and Vatsana Chantala, chair of the Asian Pacific American Society in New Orleans. In addition to door prizes, food will be sold by Tan Dinh Vietnamese Bistro, HipStix Restaurant and Mikimoto Sushi. An after-party will take place at The Republic, located at 828 S. Peters St.
