Loyola University New Orleans to induct Hall of Fame athletes

Five former members of the Loyola University New Orleans athletic program will be inducted into the university’s Hall of Fame Class of 2008 on Saturday, February, 23. These former athletes will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to their sport during a ceremony that evening.

Hall of Fame events will begin Saturday afternoon with Loyola men’s and women’s basketball playing Dillard University in The Den. Wolfpack women’s basketball tips off at 3 p.m. in the University Sports Complex, and the men’s team plays at 5 p.m.

A dinner reception honoring Hall of Fame inductees will start at 7 p.m. in the St. Charles Room in the Danna Student Center. This year’s honorees are: Gary Bono, B’71, baseball; Cristin Favre, A’99, volleyball; Sean Fitzwilliam, A’00, cross country; Robert McLaughlin, B’59, basketball; and John Spansel, Jr., A’56, L’83, baseball. The St. Sebastian award, given in honor of those who provide continuous support and dedication to the athletic program, will be presented to Harold Baquet, Loyola University New Orleans photographer.

All activities will be held at Loyola’s main campus at 6363 St. Charles Avenue. Tickets for admission to the Hall of Fame games, induction ceremony, and dinner are $25 per person. Loyola’s Hall of Fame was created in 1964 and reinstated in 1993 with the return of intercollegiate athletics to the university.
