St. Ives Award presented to Michael X. St. Martin
February 15, 2008
Loyola University New Orleans College of Law alumnus Michael X. St. Martin received the St. Ives Award, which is the highest honor awarded by the College of Law Alumni Association. The St. Ives Award, named for the patron saint of lawyers, is presented annually to an alumnus who has volunteered services to the College of Law or the university, maintained the highest standards of the profession, and furthered the mission of the alumni association.
St. Martin, a 1967 graduate of the College of Law, has been a loyal and generous supporter of the college for many years. He is a former member of Loyola’s Board of Trustees and an emeritus member of the College of Law Visiting Committee. In 1998, he and his wife, Virginia, made a major gift commitment to Thresholds: the Campaign for Loyola University which, combined with a gift from the family of the late Wendell H. Gauthier, L’70, was used to fund the Wendell H. Gauthier-Michael X. St. Martin Eminent Scholar Chair in Environmental Law. Additionally, in 2006, the College of Law dedicated the Michael X. St. Martin Trial Classroom, which is used for the Trial Practice Seminars, Moot Court student competitions, and as a traditional classroom for law classes.
St. Martin continues to generously support the College of Law and serves as an active and involved alumnus. His encouragement of other alumni to pledge support and participate in alumni initiatives has been, and continues to be, a tremendous asset for the College of Law.
The St. Ives award was presented at Loyola’s Annual Law Alumni Luncheon at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel on February 15, 2008.
