Loyola mass communication professor honored by local public relations professionals

November 30, 2007

Cathy Rogers, Ph.D., Loyola University New Orleans associate professor in mass communication and public relations sequence head, has been honored by the New Orleans Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) for her faculty adviser services to the PRSA student chapter at Loyola University. This is the second time Rogers has received the annual award by the New Orleans PRSA.

The “Great Ball of Fire” award is presented annually to a PRSA chapter member who gives willingly of his or her time, talent, and resources to help the chapter achieve its goals.

Her continuous work with Loyola students in the prestigious national PRSA competitions has placed the School of Mass Communication in the national spotlight. Rogers’ students have earned first place four years and achieved national recognition every year of Loyola’s 13-year participation in the PRSA Bateman Case Study Competition.

Rogers’ research interests include political communication on the local and national level, with a focus on women in political leadership positions. She also has researched methods and strategies of past PRSA Bateman winners to demonstrate that national competition is important to student learning. She earned her Ph.D. in journalism and mass communication from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, where she also earned a certificate from the Contemporary History Institute. Rogers joined the Loyola faculty in 1990.
