Loyola Moot Court Team wins international competition

The Loyola University New Orleans College of Law Moot Court Team has just won the International Environmental Competition.

In the international competition, Loyola advanced from preliminaries to semi-finals to the finals and took first place. They also received honors as Runner-Up Best Memorial Overall, and Chris Otten received Best Oralist.

Advancing out of the North American competition, Loyola’s team competed against more than 80 competitors from more than 20 countries across the globe. They advanced to the finals and achieved runner-up honors; however, the team also received an award for Best Memorial Overall. Marisa Escudero received fifth Best Oralist and Chris Otten received Best Oralist. These honors allowed the team to advance to the international competition.

Among the schools that competed with Loyola’s team were Cornell University Law School, Wake Forest University School of Law, University of San Diego School of Law, Pace University Law School, National University of Advanced Legal Studies (India), University of New South Wales (Australia), American University of Armenia, and Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines).

Team members included law students Marissa Escudero, oralist; Chris Otten, oralist; Brandon Robb, brief writer; and Brooke Crocker, coach. According to BestMootCourtPrograms.com, Loyola is currently ranked as the 25th best program in the nation.

Loyola Moot Court Program endeavors to foster the art of appellate advocacy with responsiveness and enthusiasm through team advancement, academic support, and community involvement, thereby enhancing national recognition and pride among its members.
