Loyola shares in worldwide celebration of International Education Week
November 2, 2007
Loyola University New Orleans and Tulane University will join college campuses around the world November 12 through 16 in celebration of the seventh Annual International Education Week (IEW).
IEW is a dual initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, promoting programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.
In a joint effort, Tulane and Loyola will offer an array of programs and activities for the two universities and the larger New Orleans community. Throughout International Education Week, there will be cultural events taking place at several locations on both campuses, including international films, study and work abroad sessions, and an international night.
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has called for the celebration of International Education Week: “In a world where challenges transcend borders, education is essential for making the world more peaceful and more prosperous. American students can better understand global issues by learning other languages and experiencing other cultures first-hand. Moreover, our country has no more valuable asset internationally than the friendship of the millions of young people, citizens, and leaders around the world who understand the United States because they have studied here.”
