Argentinean dramatic movie screening at Loyola

October 26, 2007

Loyola and Casa Argentina are pleased to present a screening of Chronicle of an escape (Crónica de una fuga), a glaring, true story of four men who narrowly escaped death at the hands of Argentina's military death squads during the 1970s. The Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Cultures and the Film Buffs Institute at Loyola are collaborating with Casa Argentina to present monthly screenings of Argentinean films at Loyola. The first film will be shown Thursday, November 1, at 7:30 p.m., in Bobet Hall, Room 332. This event is free and open to the public. The movie is in Spanish with English subtitles.

Chronicle of an escape is about Claudio Tamburrini, a soccer goalie kidnapped by the Argentinean military and falsely imprisoned in a detention center in 1977. After several months of unjust incarceration and torture, he plots his escape with three fellow prisoners.

Casa Argentina of New Orleans is a non-profit organization with the mission of preserving and sharing the Argentinean culture in New Orleans, as well as collaborating with local and Latin American institutions and helping people when the circumstances call for it. Past activities include movie screenings, picnics, and demonstrations of tango and folklore. The organization regularly collaborates with local universities and associations.
