Based on the heritage of Catholic Jesuit higher education in Louisiana since 1849, Loyola University New Orleans was chartered in 1912. Loyola is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States. As a Catholic university, Loyola has continued to emphasize the valuable Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person. The university has a total enrollment of 5,500 students (3,500 undergraduates). Loyola’s size allows a student/faculty ratio of 12 to 1 with an average class size of 22. Our degree programs include: 60 undergraduate degree programs, 15 graduate degree programs, a juris doctor degree, and 4 pre-professional programs.

Our more than 35,000 graduates have excelled in innumerable areas for more than 80 years. The university’s growth has increased the diversity of education available, but has not diminished the delivery of educational values traditionally associated with its Jesuits heritage. These values include a liberal arts and sciences education emphasizing self-discovery, exploration of values, and the fostering of personal initiatives and critical thinking.

U.S. News and World Report ranks Loyola among the top 60 regional colleges and universities in the nation.
