The Pilot Program: University Credit Courses

Loyola University New Orleans offers non-native English speakers the opportunity to earn 12 hours of academic credit during one semester. Qualified students earn 6 hours of credit from 2 LIEP classes and 6 hours from 2 other academic classes. This Pilot Program provides students with the language skills, the cultural knowledge and the study skills necessary for success in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Placement in the Pilot Program is conditional on students having a minimum TOEFL score of 500 (173 CBT).

Miguel Blandon, Nicaragua, started his MBA program:

image"Even though I already had an undergraduate degree, the pilot program gave me a very good understanding of how regular classes operate in American universities and how well an international student can perform when she/he is interacting with native speakers. I improved my listening, writing, reading and speaking skills by being involved in both Loyola undergraduate courses and LIEP at the same time."

Hyun Jung Kim, Korea, majored in Communications at Loyola:

"Being enrolled in the pilot program helped me enormously. My LIEP instructors gave me invaluable help in improving my writing of papers for regular classes and my understanding. My LIEP tutor helped me with vocabulary and new concepts from the regular classes."
