Loyola University New Orleans College of Law and the Office of Career Services is committed to the importance, both ethically and morally, of diversity programming. While application and enrollment to law schools have steadily increased, job opportunities and retention of diverse candidates is diminishing. With this “new economy” in the legal marketplace, the legal profession has faced financial challenges, which will continue for the foreseeable future.
We must ask ourselves, “What does this mean in terms of our profession’s advancements toward achieving true diversity?” The Bar can only be as diverse as the students who apply to law school, graduate from law school, enter the profession and remain in the profession. While discretionary financial resources are diminishing within firms, for a successful long-range plan, it only makes good business sense to increase resources toward diversity efforts. Refocused efforts which provide better outcomes should be implemented.
The Office of Career Services welcomes your partnership to create and implement innovative programming to ensure a diverse recruitment, mentoring and retention of the next generation of lawyers.
