Connections with other Jesuit Social Centers and Institutes
The Jesuit Social Research Institute participates in the a world-wide network of Jesuit social centers, including the United States Jesuit social ministries office. The institute collaborates with Jesuits, their colleagues and their institutions around the world through the International Network of Jesuits for Development. The Jesuit Social Secretariat based in Rome is the coordinating agency for the world-wide social ministry of Jesuits and their colleagues. In its 2005 study of 350 Jesuit social centers from around the world, the Jesuit Social Secretariat identified four primary characteristics of these centers:
- Promotion of justice as one of their main goals.
- Focus on the transformation of social structures by means of research, and/or formation, and/or social action.
- Connection to the social ministries of the Society of Jesus; and
- Commitment to an attitude of discernment in the areas of mission and vision, methodology, selection of partners and use of social analysis and theological reflection.
The Jesuit Social Research Institute strives to fulfill these characteristics, facilitating future collaboration with other Jesuit social centers. The institute also collaborates with other non-Jesuit institutes and centers whose mission converges with ours.
