Jesuit Summer Institute for Advanced Study 2009

Who we are

The Jesuit Summer Institute for Advanced Study offers seminars devoted to the intellectual tradition within which Jesuit universities pursue their mission by combining an intellectually rigorous academic seminar and active engagement with the world, all in the Ignatian spirit of reflection and individual formation.  This year, the Institute is launching its pilot seminar series at Loyola University New Orleans.  In coming years, the Institute will be hosted by other members of the Association of Jesuit Colleges & Universities (AJCU), and each member institution will focus their seminars on creative and unique topics of their own choosing.

Tomorrow's whole person must have, in brief, a well-educated solidarity. When the heart is touched by direct experience, the mind may be challenged to change. Personal involvement with innocent suffering is the catalyst for solidarity, which then gives rise to intellectual inquiry and moral reflection."

- Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J.
