Father Ferlita is professor emeritus of drama and speech.

In 2003, he taught a short course on Gerard Manley Hopkins at Spring Hill college, and for three years he gave three-day retreats at more than one retreat house.  He has written a number of plays.  One of them, Ma-Fa, based on the life of Jesuit Adam Schall in China, is second-place winner of the International Competition of Religious Drama for the Year 2000.  He is also the author of several books, including The Paths of Life, three books of reflections on readings for the Sunday Mass.  Many of these reflections were given as homilies to the congregation at St. Clare's Monastery in New Orleans, where he continues to serve as chaplain.
