It is the policy of Loyola University New Orleans to provide support for fathers in the care of their newborn children.

Procedure

Up to four weeks (20 working days) is provided through the family care provision of the Sick Leave Policy for new fathers who are regular (not temporary) full-time staff employees after the birth of a child.

Eligible employees intending to take paternity leave should meet with their supervisor as soon as practical to arrange for the leave.

Birth fathers are entitled to 12 weeks of unpaid leave to care for a newborn child under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Paid family sick leave taken as paternity leave runs concurrently with any FMLA leave taken.
