Human Resources Manual

Policy No.: 4-14 This policy applies to:
Policy Name: Witness Duty Non-exempt staff
Effective Date: 08/01/04 Exempt staff
Revised: Faculty

Policy

Loyola University New Orleans encourages employees to appear in court for witness duty when necessary.

If employees have been subpoenaed or otherwise requested to testify as witnesses by Loyola University, they will receive paid time off for the entire period of witness duty.

Employees will be granted unpaid time off to appear in court as a witness when requested by a party other than Loyola University. Employees may use any available vacation leave to receive compensation for the period of this absence. (Exempt staff will be charged with full-day absences only.)

Procedure

The subpoena should be shown to the employee’s supervisor as soon as possible after it is received so that operating requirements can be adjusted, as necessary, to accommodate the employee’s absence. The employee is expected to report for work whenever the court schedule permits.
