Recent Student Achievments

2008 - 2009

Alex Langlinais, Class of 2009 philosophy major, has been offered full fellowships from several Ph.D. programs in philosophy.  He will begin graduate work in philosophy at the University of Chicago this Fall.

Nick Courtney, Class of 2010 Medieval studies and philosophy double-major, was a Fellow at The University of Notre Dame's prestigious Erasmus Institute during the summer of 2009.  He will participate in a seminar titled, "Catholic Intellectual Traditions."

Shea T. Johns & Rebekah C. Locke were chosen to attend the Association of Jesuit Colleges & Universities (AJCU) inaugural Jesuit Summer Institute for Advanced Study - 2009, a two week undergraduate seminar. The JSI brought together 28 student fellows from 15 AJCU member institutions and was hosted by Loyola University New Orleans.

 

2007 - 2008

Katherine Karcher (French/Classical Studies, 2008) is studying 18th Century French literature at l'Institut Catholique de Paris (Catholic University of Paris) under the auspices of a James Domengeaux scholarship awarded by La Fondation Louisiane and CODOFIL. For her senior project, she translated French documents about the colonial experience in Louisiana previously unavailable to readers of English.

Elliot Sanchez (Philosophy/Political Science, 2008) was recognized by President Clinton as part of the inaugural Clinton Global Initiative University for his work on a microfinance program based at Loyola that will assist New Orleans' less fortunate residents in launching business ventures as means to combat poverty. He is currently working with Teach For America.

Laura N. Thomas (Chemistry, 2008) recieved the Pittsburgh Conference Extra Effort Award in 2008 for coordinating an outreach program on green chemistry for elementary and secondary schools. Starting in the fall of 2008, she will attend the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine's Physical Therapy Program.

 

2006 - 2007

Christorpher Lirette (English Writing, 2007) recieved a Fulbright Scholarship to Canada for 2007 - 2008 to study Acadian poetry. He is currently pursuing an MFA at Cornell University.

Mary Spulak recieved the Goldwater Scholarship.
