Our Mission
Working in close partnership with the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences, the University Honors Program is a rigorous academic program founded in the Jesuit liberal arts tradition.
The University Honors Program prepares students to succeed in the most demanding and competitive graduate and professional schools and career choices. The Honors experience gives students not only rigorous academic training but also fosters the self-confidence and intellectual curiosity to undertake new challenges and opportunities. It enhances the undergraduate experience itself, with the excitement and fun of participating with other Honors students and Honors Faculty in a program of intellectual exploration, cultural enrichments, and social interaction
The UHP offers the opportunity for students to take challenging Honors courses and participate in cultural and intellectual enrichment activities. The Honors Program is open to qualified students of all undergraduate colleges and majors. Honors courses replace several course requirements, and do not add to the number of classes required for graduation. These courses are designed to challenge and stimulate students. Primary sources, rather than textbooks, commonly provide the core of Honors reading assignments. Writing projects demand an extraordinary level of analysis and expression. Students in the UHP are required to maintain a 3.3 overall grade point average.
