General Interest

 The Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics - essay contest intended to challenge undergraduate juniors and seniors to analyze the urgent ethical questions facing them. Application Deadline: December 3, 2012

The Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program -- up to 50 scholarships will be awarded to students currently attending community colleges or two-year institutions and planning to transfer to four-year institutions

Horatio Alger Scholarship Program - The Horatio Alger Association seeks to assist students who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, strength of character, financial need, a good academic record, commitment to pursue a college education; and a desire to contribute to society. Application Deadline: 2013 deadline to be announced  Loyola University New Orleans supports this program as a participating Collegiate Partner.

Foreclosure.com  offers an essay contest for college students and incoming freshmen. The topic for the contest is,  "You've acquired $150,000 in cash to be used specifically for a distressed real estate purchase. Outline a detailed strategy that ensures the maximum return on investment, whether it's in terms of financial profit or personal satisfaction ... or both." First place will receive $5,000 and second through fifth place will each receive $1,000 in scholarship monies. The top five plans will even be sent to congress. Application Deadline: December 15, 2013

Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarships - The Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarships recognize students who are driving awareness and mobilizing youth to be catalysts for innovative models and solutions to eliminate hunger in America. The scholarship recipients each receive $5,000 for their education as well as a matching grant in their name for the hunger-related charity of their choice. 2012 Application Period: closed December 5, 2012

Business and Finance

Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarship - $5,000 scholarship for one or more undergraduate or graduate students preparing for a career in state and local government finance. The 2013 - 2014 Application Deadline:  February 23, 2013. Award winners will be announced on April 30, 2013.

Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship--$5,000 awarded to an upper division undergrad or grad student of public administration, (governmental)accounting, finance, political science, economics or business administration. 2013-2014 Application Deadline: February 22, 2013.

Math and Science

"SMART" Scholarship Program - The Department of Defense (DoD) offers scholarships to undergraduate, master's and doctoral students who have demonstrated ability and special aptitude for training in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) fields. The DoD also offers them career opportunities to continue their research as civilian employees of a DoD laboratory after graduation. 

NASA "MUST" Scholarship Program - The Motivating Undergraduates in Science and Technology Project, or MUST, funded by the NASA, is a joint partnership between the Hispanic College Fund, the United Negro College Fund Special Programs and the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers. MUST awards scholarships and internships to undergraduates pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, fields. The MUST Project is open to all students and is particularly focused on engaging students from under served and underrepresented groups to enter STEM fields. 

The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program - created to encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering and to foster excellence in these fields.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Undergraduate Scholarship Program- offers scholarship awards to students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical research. Application Deadline: March 1, 2013.

American Chemical Society Scholars Program - the program is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic/Latino and American Indian students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences and chemical technology. Application Period:  November 1, 2011 - February 28, 2012. APPLICATION DEADLINE: March 1. (annual)

Ernest Hollings Scholarship Program - Eligible undergraduates studying biological, life, and agricultural sciences; physical sciences; mathematics; engineering; computer and information sciences; social and behavioral science; and teacher education are encouraged to apply. Annual Application Period: November though January (annual)

Public Service

The Harry Truman Scholarship Foundation --$30,000 total grant awarded to undergraduate students who plan to attend graduate or professional school in preparation for careers in government, the non-profit sector, or elsewhere in public service. Application Period Opens:  August 1, 2013 for the 2014-2015 award year

The Thomas Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship - applicants must be in the junior year of undergraduate study with a cumulative gpa of 3.2 or higher. Application Deadline: February 7, 2013

The Arts

Annual CHRISTOPHER Video Contest -- A non-profit organization founded in 1945, The Christophers use mass media to encourage all individuals to recognize their unique abilities and use them to raise the standards of public life. The theme of this year's contest is "One Person Can Make A Difference".

MusicScholarships.us -MusicScholarships.US provides Free  information on Music Scholarships, Grants, Competitions and Awards Resources for students preparing for an exciting career in music.

Special Interest Groups

LeTendre Education Fund Scholarship Program provides scholarship assistance to students who are homeless or have experienced homelessness.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund -awards generally range from $1,000 to $2,500. Programs available to students in community colleges, 4 year colleges and graduate schools. 2014- 2015 Application Information Released: September 1, 2013

2012 Talbots Women's Scholarship Fund - $100,000 national scholarship program that is geared towards women who earned their high school diploma or GED at least 10 years ago and who are now seeking a college degree. Application Deadline: Check back in October 2012

National Italian American Foundation Scholarship Program - The NIAF has an education budget of $1,000,000 and will award scholarships and grants to outstanding students. Awards will be based on academic merit and divided between two groups of students: Applications Normally Available- November 1st for the following academic year.

Hispanic College Fund Inc.--Students must be U.S. citizens of Hispanic origin residing in the fifty states or Puerto Rico. Students must be accepted or enrolled on a full-time basis in an undergraduate program that will lead to a career in business.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program - fellowships for outstanding low-income African-American, Native American, Hispanic American students.

 Parents,Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays("PFLAG")- Application Deadline: March 1, 2013 .

Press Club of New Orleans Journalism Scholarship Program - awards to Louisiana residents enrolled in print or broadcast journalism programs. Application Deadline:  April 15, 2011

Peter Agris Memorial Scholarship for Greek-Americans pursuing careers in journalism and communications.

Asian American Journalists Association Scholarship Program

Cancer for College - Cancer for College was formed in 1993 by Craig Pollard as a senior project while at the USC Business School.  Craig was a two-time cancer survivor and witnessed first hand the financial impact cancer can have on a family and the hope a college education can provide to a survivor.

American Cancer Society's College Scholarship Program - The American Cancer Society, Mid-South Division's College Scholarship Program awards $1,000 scholarships to eligible students for an academic year. All scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the American Cancer Society's volunteer college scholarship committee based on the student's financial need, academic achievement, community service and leadership.

Study Abroad

George J. Mitchell Scholarship Program- The Mitchell Scholars Program is a national competitive fellowship sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance. The Mitchell Scholars Program, named to honor former US Senator George Mitchell’s pivotal contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process, is designed to introduce and connect generations of future American leaders to the island of Ireland, while recognizing and fostering intellectual achievement, leadership, and a commitment to public service and community. Up to twelve Mitchell Scholars between the ages of 18 and 30 are chosen annually for one year of postgraduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

The Benjamin Gilman International Scholarship Competition for the 2013 fall and the 2013-14 academic year - awards up to $5,000 for undergraduate study abroad programs. Application Deadline:  March 5, 2013
