2010 Gulf Coast Oil Spill

On April 20, 2010, the Deepwater Horizon, a deep-water oil drilling rig, exploded and caught fire and ultimately sank in the Gulf of Mexico. The rig was located about 50 miles southeast of Venice,  Louisiana.  Venice is approximately 80 miles southeast of New Orleans.

The resulting oil spill is the worse in U.S. history. This story has received extensive coverage in the media. However, this is a complicated story which often defies the time limits typically allowed on the evening news. We want to provide additional reliable information for concerned families.
