General

Jacob K. Javits Fellowship Program provides financial assistance to students of superior ability to undertake study at the doctoral and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) level in selected fields of the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation offers graduate scholarshiprs to help students with exceptional promise and demonstrated financial need reach their full potential through education.

International Dissertation Field Research Fellowships ("IDRF") is committed to scholarship that advances knowledge about cultures, societies, aesthetics, economies and / or politics outside the United States. Fifty fellowships of up to $20,000 will be awarded. Application Deadline: November 5, 2008

Science, Math and Engineering

"SMART" Scholarship Program through the Department of Defense (DoD) offers scholarships to master's and doctoral students who have demonstrated ability and special aptitude for training in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) fields. The DoD also offers them career opportunities to continue their research as civilian employees of a DoD laboratory after graduation.

Zonta International Amelia Earhart Fellowships offer $10,000 in annual grants for study in aerospace related science and engineering. Application Deadline: 11/15/09

Math for America is a nonprofit organization with a mission to improve math education in secondary public schools in the United States by recruiting, training, and retaining outstanding mathematics teachers.

The National Physical Science Consortium ("NPSC) offers a unique six year doctoral fellowship program in Astronomy, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Materials Science, Mathematical Sciences, Physics, and related engineering fields. Application Deadline: November 5, 2009

Minority Fellowship Program in Neuroscience offers financial support for a period of up to 3 years for students enrolled full-time in a doctoral program in neuroscience.

NASA's Space Grant Program is a national network of colleges and universities. These institutions are working to expand opportunities for Americans to understand and participate in NASA's aeronautics and space projects by supporting and enhancing science and engineering education, research and public outreach efforts.

The SAE Doctoral Scholars Program offers forgivable loans to assist and encourage promising engineering or graduate students to pursue careers in teaching engineering at the college level.Application Deadline: April 1, 2009.

GrantsNet - The American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute have teamed up with other organizations to create an extensive compilation of electronically searchable medical and life science funding information.

Business and Finance

The AICPA John L. Carey Scholarship Program awards for liberal arts undergraduates who want to pursue graduate accounting study. Deadline: April 1, 2009.

Institute of Management Accountants National Student Scholarship Program - Applicants must be a student member of the Institute of Management Accountants. Graduate students must have a declared major in Management Accounting /Financial Management related program or have majored in a Management Accounting/ Financial Management related program as an undergraduate.

Education

James Madison Fellowships are awarded to future and current secondary school teachers of American history, American government, or social studies. Application deadline: March 4, 2010

Public Service

Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship - Applicants must have attained GPA's of 3.2 or higher (on a scale of 4.0)as undergraduates and must be interested in being Foreign Service Officers in the U.S. Department of State. Application Deadline: February 5, 2010.

U.S. Department of Homeland Security Fellowship Program - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) realizes that the country's strong science and technology community provides a critical advantage in the development and implementation of counter-terrorist measures and other DHS objectives. The DHS Scholarship and Fellowship Program is intended for students interested in pursuing the basic science and technology innovations that can be applied to the DHS mission. 2010-2011 Application Information: will be posted  "in the fall"on this website

Minorities in Government Finance awards $5,000 to upperdivision undergrad OR graduate student of public administration, (governmental) accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration. Application Deadline: March 6,2009.

The Mayoral Fellows Program in City Government - The Mayoral Fellows Program offers post-baccalaureate students the opportunity to serve in New Orleans city government while helping to create a cadre of potential leaders for our community. Students qualify as Junior Fellows if they have earned a bachelor's degree and have been accepted in or recently entered a graduate/professional school.  Students qualify as Senior Fellows if they are well-advanced in completing their graduate/professional program.  The ten-month program gives the Fellows and opportunity to explore their ideas about a career in government.  They can experience the challenges and opportunities of city government first hand while working on specific projects and proposals to help departments reach their goals. Application Deadline- April 6, 2009

 

Study Abroad

Marshall Scholarships are Funded by the British government, the program supports up to 40 Americans to study in the United Kingdom.

Rhodes Scholarships - approximately 32 U.S. citizens are chosen each year from this program which allows up to 3 years of study at Oxford University in Great Britain.

The George Mitchell Scholarship Program scholars are eligible to attend institutions of higher learning in Ireland for one year of graduate study. Application Deadline: October 6, 2008.

Fullbright Scholarships - The American Scholars Program sends approximately 1,000 students and professionals to more than 100 countries.

TheDavies-Jackson Scholarship presents a unique opportunity for students with exceptional academic records, who are among the first in their families to graduate college, to participate in a course of study at St. John’s College at the University of Cambridge

Special Interest Groups

American Association of University Women - One of the world's largest sources of funding for graduate women, the Educational Foundation is providing $4.5 million in funding for more than 250 fellowships, grants, and special awards to outstanding women in the 2008-09 academic year.

The Gates Millennium Scholars Program provides scholarships and fellowships for outstanding low-income African American, Native American, Hispanic American, and Asian American Students.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund awards range from $1,000 to $2,500.

The Ford Foundation offers approximately 60 Predoctoral and 35 dissertation Fellowships and 20 Postdoctoral Fellowships. Application Deadlines: November 14, 2008 (predoctoral), November 28, 2008 (dissertation), November 28, 2008 (Postdoctoral).

Nursing

U.S. Army Health Professions Scholarship Program offers Scholarships for 100% tuition at an accredited school acceptable to the Surgeon General in the United States or Puerto Rico. reimbusements given fir required books, certain non-expendable equipment and some academic fees. Recipients receive a monthly stipend of more than $1,200 (adjusted each July)

National Health Corps Service Scholarship Program -  The program provides scholarships to health professions students in return for a commitment to provide primary health services in critical shortage areas after graduation. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act signed into law on Feb. 17 provided additional funding for the NHSC and the program expects to be able to award scholarships to more students than it did last year. The scholarship is tax free except for the living stipend ($1,269 per month this year). APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 6, 2009
