Due to the anticipated shortfall in the Louisiana Go Grant Program funding, the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance ("LOSFA")and the Louisiana Board of Regents developed an eligibility and award amount formula aimed at an equitable maximization of limited state dollars.

These changes were outlined in the May 12, 2009 Student Financial Aid Bulletin  published by the Louisiana Student Financial Assistance Commission's Office of Student Financial Assistance.

Funding will be allocated to campuses as outlined in a letter sent from the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance on April 16, 2009. Loyola University New Orleans' allocation for the 2009-2010 year was set at a maximum of $322,614. Funds will be awarded to students on a "first come, first served" basis and priority given to full-time students paying "day division" tuition charges .

We will calculate an "Educational Cost Gap" (ECG) for each student according to the following program guidelines: The "Louisiana Basic College Cost" ($3,990)  plus $2,000 minus the student's full-time Pell Award.

The ECG amount will change from an indicator to an actual amount for the academic year. Awards will range from $200 to $2,000 per academic year, depending on the amount of the student's ECG.

Students with ECGs greater than $199 will be awarded the actual amount of the ECG, up to a ceiling of $2,000.

Students with ECGs greater than $2,000 will be awarded the maximum award of $2,000

Students with ECGs of $199 or less would not qualify to receive a GO Grant.

AN  EXAMPLE:

  • $3,800 "Basic College Cost " + 2,0000 =$5,850 allowable costs.
  • $5,850 allowable costs - $5,350 maximumfull-time Pell Grant = $450 "Educational Cost Gap"

GO grant funds will not be available for the summer semester.
