CBFWS Jobs - Catholic Charities ESL
The Teacher's Assistant will work with Catholic Charities' staff, volunteer teachers, and adult learners of English as a Second Language (ESL). The Teacher's Assistant will be responsible for supporting volunteer teachers before, during, and after class sessions. Duties include substitute teaching, tutoring students with special needs/interests, helping design lesson plans, organize classroom materials, making photocopies, and assisting the Site Facilitator with registration and orientation of incoming adult learners.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT TRAINING AND ORIENTATION
Work study students will be required to attend and complete the necessary paperwork that will be covered during a 2 hour orientation session conducted by Catholic Charities ESL staff; complete a Safe Environment Training as scheduled through the Office of Volunteer Services; and pass a background check.
The ideal candidate for this position is friendly, outgoing, and comfortable working with volunteers and adult immigrants from diverse walks of life. Bilingual candidates (Spanish, Vietnamese, or French/Haitian Creole) will be highly preferred, as well as those with their own transportation. The ideal candidate has experience tutoring or teaching adult learners, is patient, creative, and enjoys working as part of a team.
Catholic Charities will have 1-2 paid staff members on site at all times. The Teacher's Assistant will report directly to the Site Facilitator at their specific location.
