Financial Aid for Non-Traditional Students

Life commitments can make pursuing an education challenging. Loyola University makes it easier by offering bachelor's and master's degree programs in a variety of formats – online, daytime, and evening classes. Our programs reflect the basic philosophy of Jesuit education, combining rigorous and contemporary professional education with a broad foundation in the humanities and social sciences.

The Office of Non-Traditional Studies coordinates these academic programs. A limited number of merit scholarships are available to students.

The Student Finance Office coordinates all billing . You can find a detailed listing of tuition and fee charges on their site.

The Student Records Office handles all paperwork required by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for students who are eligible for educational benefits under the G.I. Bill

Federal Aid Programs

The U.S. Department of Education estimates that 90 million individuals participate in some form of adult education each year, including training and basic education offered outside traditional higher education. The Department's website provides some specific information for adults who are considering returning to school

Students who are enrolled on at least a half time basis (6 hours per semester for undergraduates and 5 hours per semester for graduate students) in a degree seeking program can apply for federal financial aid funds to help with the cost of their education.

Application Process:

  1. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (or "FAFSA"). We encourage students to complete the form online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov . Our school code is 002016.
  2. Once we receive your processed FAFSA AND you have been accepted into a degree program at Loyola University New Orleans, we will calculate your eligibility for all federal student aid programs.
  3. Counselors will post your eligibility to your account on Loyola University's Online Records Access System (or "LORA"). For incoming students only, counselors will also send a traditional paper award letter to your permanent home address. Returning students will be notified when their awards have been posted to LORA and given the option to also request a paper award letter.
  4. If you choose to utilize the federal student loan programs while at Loyola, you must "accept" the loan and choose a lender . If you are borrowing for the first time under the Federal Student Loan Programs, you must complete an "Entrance Loan Counseling" session.

For further information on available federal programs at Loyola University New Orleans, refer to either the undergraduate or graduate and professional student sections on our website.
