Wilson Charter School

Andrew H. Wilson Charter School is an open-enrollment public charter school located in the Broadmoor neighborhood that serves over 650 students, pre-K through 8th grade.

WHAT YOU DO

Loyola service learners' primary responsibility will be to provide academic support for students and teachers in classrooms and during afterschool. Service learners will support students individually and in small groups by reinforcing material that is taught in the classroom. Specific needs include afterschool tutoring and homework help, school garden assistance and English-as-a-Second-Language support. Additionally, service learners will form bonds with students and provide positive role models.

WHAT YOU LEARN

Students will learn about child development, students' social and emotional needs, classroom management, mentoring, and the charter school culture in New Orleans. They will also become familiar with preK-8 curricula, grade-level expectations, Louisiana's state education standards, and the "community school" philosophy. Most importantly, students will learn how to connect with and empower our youth.
