Uptown Shepherd's Center

The Uptown Shepherd's Center is a haven of opportunity for older adults. We provide daily exercise classes and weekly recreation and wellness classes for people aged 60 and older. Some of our classes include: computer class, Spanish and French, poetry, drama, line dancing and quilting.

WHAT YOU DO

Service learners will have the opportunity to work directly with seniors and staff teaching social media, computers, and the life perspective of the young! Students may work one-on-one with a senior on computers or a project, help to put together picture collages, put together a cookbook or help staff with making posters or fliers. Students serving at Uptown Shepherd's Center should be patient, able to communicate well, and eager to get involved.

WHAT YOU LEARN

Service learners will learn about the daily lives of older adults and can learn the skills needed to work in either gerontology or nonprofit management.
