Travelers Aid Society

Travelers Aid Society (TAS) is committed to preventing homelessness and to helping homeless or stranded families and individuals regain a self-sufficient lifestyle. Travelers Aid provides a variety of services to homeless individuals throughout the city of New Orleans including: Day Shelter, Crisis-Intervention Services, Homeless Street Outreach, Rapid Rehousing, Permanent Supportive Housing, and Job Search Counseling/Employment Support Services.

WHAT YOU DO

Travelers Aid needs assistance in the following areas: IT- database creation, staff training (Microsoft Office), clerical assistance, assisting clients by teaching them how to find a job and supporting them through the process, mentoring clients while they are attempting to stabilize their life, helping the organization increase its' social media presence.

WHAT YOU LEARN

Students will learn how to intervene with a homeless person to help them regain self-sufficiency. They will learn and add value/input in helping to grow Travelers Aid making it a stronger non-profit.

INTERACTIONS

people with: mental/physical illness and/or low literacy • people who are homeless or in transitional housing situations • victims of crime or violence

PRESERVICE REQUIREMENTS

  1. Attend an interview
  2. Pass a background check. 
  3. Sign a confidentiality agreement and media release (students can either accept or decline media release).
