Learning objective: Students will learn about the real issues that affect New Orleans' schools and schoolchildren by volunteering with schools, afterschool programs, or educational enrichment organizations. Students will use their service learning experiences to evaluate whether and how race and socioeconomic status affect educational opportunities and achievement. Service learning will be a way for students to assess the validity of theories and ideas presented in class.
Document all your hours using a service learning timesheet. Submit timesheets to the service learning office twice per semester (midterm and last day of the semester). Check the Loyola Service Learning Calendar for deadlines.
Know that your agency supervisor will submit a performance evaluation on your work at the end of the semester. This evaluation will be given to your professor and incorporated into your class grade. See a sample evaluation>>
