The mission of Fresh Food Factor is to make fresh, healthy food a staple instead of a rare treat. We aim to nourish the bodies and minds of our local community from the inside out and promote healthy living and positive food choices. With increased pressure to cut costs, schools and care facilities are often forced to rely on food vendors which provide processed convenience foods rather than fresh, natural, healthy meals. At our state-of-the-art commercial kitchen in the Lower Garden District, we prepare fresh and healthy meals and snacks for local schools and other agencies. Fresh Food Factor is a program of Volunteers of America.
WHAT YOU DO
Loyola service learners will assist in our commercial kitchen by preparing ingredients, cooking meals, and assembling and packaging meals for delivery.
WHAT YOU LEARN
Students who serve at Fresh Food Factor will learn about nutrition and gain culinary skills, including how to operate commercial equipment and prepare healthy meals in large quantities. They will also learn about food sources and suppliers and kitchen safety and management.
