Service learning is required for this course.

Service learning goal: By participating in the advocacy project in this course, students will understand how Christian belief and commitment can inspire forms of advocacy and activism on selected social justice issues. This project will also give students practical experience in advocating on behalf of their views.

Students will participate in a service learning project for this class in partnership with Loyola's Jesuit Social Research Institute. This project will require students to learn about the theory and practice of Catholic and Christian advocacy on the following social issues: poverty, hunger, minimum wage, immigration, hyperincarceration and the death penalty. It will also require students to articulate and advocate for their own positions on these issues.
