Weekly Update from the President
Dear Members of the University Community,
We continue to engage in the work of resuming life on St. Charles Avenue. The Provost and Deans, with the generosity and hard work of the faculty, have been putting together a schedule for the Spring semester. Soon, on 15 November, we will begin registration for the Spring term. Student participation in registration is essential to our ability to meet the needs of students in the spring. In addition to the academic preparation the Student Affairs office is working, along with the help of the SGA leadership, to prepare for the spring as well. We are also trying to address other needs of our faculty, staff, and students for the spring. We continue to work on housing options for people. Students can post housing information at http://www.loyno.edu/students/boards/index.php Faculty and staff can find private listings at http://www.loyno.edu/emersite/fac_staf/housing.htm We continue our negotiations with FEMA for other alternatives for faculty and staff. I had hoped, long ago, to have more concrete information by this time, but the wheels of government have been slow. We have had more success on the education front in working with Tulane and the Lusher school. Soon, we should be able to post directions, for those who are interested, for enrolling your children in the school. This past week I finished visiting our alumni clubs and students around the nation. We used our alumni clubs to sponsor receptions for students, parents, and alums. In many cities we were able to hold the events at a Jesuit university. Last week I was in San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Denver. We had events at Loyola Marymount, the University of San Francisco, and Regis University. At each event there was a good turn out of alums, students, and parents and it gave me, once again, a chance to talk about the University’s present situation, the challenges ahead, and our future. Each day there are more people on campus which is a great feeling. The campus is a lovely place, especially at this time of year, but it needs people! So it is good that there are more people around. I hope this letter finds you well.
With prayers and best wishes,
Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., Ph.D. President 9 November 2005
