      The Marquette New Faculty Fellowships offer tenure-track faculty substantial funding for summer research. In this panel presentation, recipients of the fellowship awards and members of the selection committee offer tips on writing winning proposals.

    • Forming Faculty Research and Publishing Groups

      Balancing teaching and scholarly writing is a significant challenge for the new faculty member, and working with others can help keep you on track. Members of our most active research and publishing group share tips on such forming groups and structuring projects. Come learn from them and meet colleagues interested in creating new groups.

      We are fortunate to have a top-flight instructional technology staff who can help you in many ways to enrich your teaching with streaming media, narrated PowerPoints, screen casting, Web 2.0, wikis, blogs, and other technological enhancements. Demonstrations and time for Q & A.

    • Creating First-Year Seminars

      Our first-year seminar program offers you the chance to design and teach exciting interdisciplinary courses for incoming students. The program also provides generous stipends for course development and training. Faculty share their experiences with the first-year seminars and give advice on writing successful course proposals for this competitive program.

      In this workshop, faculty and service learning staff show how to incorporate service and community engagement assignments into your classes to enrich students’ experience and put Loyola’s Jesuit mission into practice. Topics include what service learning is and isn’t, designing effective SL/CBL assignments, and finding the right community partners for your course.

      Introducing students to our distinctive Jesuit mission and identity is an important part of our faculty roles. But what do we really mean when we speak of Jesuit mission? And how do we incorporate Jesuit mission and values into teaching, scholarship, and service? This workshop provides answers to these questions and suggestions for integrating Jesuit mission into our work as faculty.

    • New Faculty Luncheon Roundtables

      12:30 – 1:45 pm

      In early November, the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship will host a series of informal luncheons to give new faculty the chance to share their experiences during the first semester at Loyola, ask questions, compare notes, and discuss common issues. Senior faculty will also attend to provide their insights. To give all new faculty the chance to attend a luncheon, three have been scheduled.
