Renovation Momentum Begins

Summer 2006
Dr. Cissy Petty, vice president for student affairs and associate provost, created the momentum and provided leadership for the current renovation.   Within the first six months of her arrival at Loyola, she secured the assistance of MacLachlan, Cornelius & Filoni (MCF), an architectural firm under the direction of MCF president Albert Filoni and principal architect Alan Hohlfelder, to assess whether a building renovation was realistic.

November – December 2006
Steering Committee was established to provide oversight and guidance of the initial process:

May 2007
MCF reports to joint Student Affairs and Building and Grounds subcommittees of the board.

Trustee Alton F. Doody was instrumental in framing the renovation project for the Board of Trustees.  His passion and entrepreneurial spirit brightly shined through with the campaign.  He said, “Tulane spent $44 million on the construction of the new Lavin-Bernick Center.  For one-tenth the cost, Loyola can achieve 80 percent of the return, with a look that not only rivals but outdoes Tulane.”

At the same time, former Board member Henry Muñoz, who is developing the campus master plan, generously volunteered his services for the project at no cost to the university.   Henry Muñoz is a Loyola alum,  award-winning architect, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kell-Muñoz Architects , the largest minority-owned architectural firm in Texas.

The Board voted to release $2 million to the project.  This is combined with $1 million pledge from Sodexho Alliance, the Loyola University food service provider, created a total budget of $3 million.

Without the vision and dedication of Fr. Wildes, Alton Doody, Henry Munoz, the Board of Trustees, Dr. Petty, and Student Government leaders, the renovation would not have come to fruition.  We are immensely grateful for their efforts.
